‘Positive future’ - Bruno Fernandes reveals Manchester United hope under Ineos as he signs new contract
The Manchester United captain has signed fresh terms with the club.
Bruno Fernandes has signed a new contract at Manchester United, keeping him at the club until June 2027, with the option of a further year.

The new deal makes him one of United’s highest-paid players, on similar terms to the likes of Marcus Rashford and Casemiro, and is rich reward for his outstanding contribution in recent years.
The United captain has scored 79 goals in 234 appearances for the club since joining from Sporting Lisbon in 2020 and has missed just two games through injury in that period. He had hinted that his long-term future could lie away from Old Trafford earlier this summer amid speculation of an exit in the transfer market. “I will be here until I've said, the club needs to want me,” he claimed at the end of last season.
ManchesterWorld reported in May that frustrations concerning his contract status and the treatment of senior players had been discussed in a meeting with United’s football leadership group. But the Portugal international reiterated his commitment to the club and hopes under the new Ineos regime as he put pen to paper on a new deal.
“Everybody knows the passion I have for Manchester United,” Fernanes said. “I understand the responsibility and significance of wearing this shirt, and the levels of dedication and desire required to represent this incredible club.
“I have had so many special moments here already; hearing my name sung from the Stretford End, scoring a hat trick against Leeds, leading the team out at Old Trafford on European nights and lifting trophies at Wembley. But I wouldn’t have signed this contract if I didn’t believe that my best moments in a United shirt are still to come.
“From my discussions with the football leadership and manager, it is clear how determined everyone is to fight for major trophies in the years ahead. I can see how positive the future is going to be and I am relishing leading this team forward.”
Fernandes ended last season in terrific form and registered 11 goal contributions in as many games. He also impressed in Saturday’s Community Shield when he operated as a false nine and is expected to be given more attacking freedom this term by manager Erik ten Hag.
“Bruno’s dedication to the club epitomises what it takes to be a United player,” said sporting director Dan Ashworth. “He remains pivotal to everything that we want to achieve here, and we look forward to working together to deliver the success that this club demands.”
