Bruno Fernandes has hailed Pep Guardiola as “the best coach in the world” and believes everyone tries to “replicate” Manchester City.

Sheikh Mansour has triggered a power shift in English football since taking charge at Eastlands in 2008. Sir Alex Ferguson infamously labelled City as “noisy neighbours” but they have since usurped all before them to dominate the Premier League and beyond.

Guardiola’s arrival in 2016 has resulted in five league titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups, the Champions League and the Club World Cup. That trophy cabinet could need extending before the campaign finishes with City competing on three fronts.

Now it is Man United who must displace Man City from their perch. The leanest spell of silverware since the Premier League began has resulted in the Red Devils sliding down the table.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe assuming sporting control in recent months, supporters are hopeful United can kick on and the days of title charges can return. As long as Guardiola remains in charge across the city, that appears an uphill task.

Even club captain Fernandes has been left amazed by the Spaniard’s reign at the Etihad. He told Portuguese outlet A Bola: "We are talking about the best coach in the world, without a shadow of a doubt. In recent years, he has been the best coach in the world.

"He is probably the coach who most changed the game of football. Nowadays, everyone wants to be Guardiola, there’s no need to hide that. All teams, from the second to the first divisions, everyone tries to play like City and everyone tries to find the dynamics that City has because they have results and success.

"For me, having praise from a coach like Guardiola is something spectacular, because, as I said, we are talking about a coach that I appreciate and who, for me, today, is the best coach in the world."
