Atletico Madrid vs Manchester United: full Atletico injury & suspension list with NINE stars who may miss game
Diego Simeone has a few team selection issues to contend with for the last-16 first leg on Wednesday.
Atletico Madrid could be without up to nine first-team stars when they take on Manchester United in the Champions League this week.
While the Red Devils will travel to the Spanish capital for Wednesday’s last-16 first leg with a relatively fresh squad, the same cannot be said for Atletico.
Diego Simeone already knows that three players will certainly miss the encounter, while a further six are doubts ahead of the fixture.
The Spanish champions warmed up for the encounter with a relatively straightforward 3-0 win over Osasuna on Saturday, but that game has resulted in several potentially new injury absentees.
Meanwhile, despite a physical battle against Leeds United at the weekend for Ralf Rangnick’s men, they don’t appear to have picked up any fresh injury concerns.
Edinson Cavani may be denied the chance to face his international team-mate Luis Suarez, while Eric Bailly might also not be fit enough to take on Atletico.
But here’s how the hosts’ squad is shaping up ahead of Wednesday’s game…

1. Antoine Griezmann
The World Cup winner has missed the last two months through injury, but returned to the bench on Saturday as Atleti beat Osasuna.

2. Matheus Cunha
Suffering from a knee problem which ruled him out at the weekend, the Brazilian will miss the visit of United.

3. Daniel Wass
Hasn’t played for Atletico since early February due to a knee injury and won’t be fit in time for Wednesday’s clash.

4. Yannick Carrasco
Was sent off in the final Champions League group-stage game and is absent through suspension.
