Arsenal vs Man Utd injury and team news: 10 ruled out for Premier League encounter

Manchester United have several absentees for this weekend’s Premier League trip to Arsenal.

The Red Devils announced in midweek that Raphael Varane is set to spend a period of time on the sidelines following the knock he picked up against Nottingham Forest last Saturday. He joins Luke Shaw and Mason Mount in United’s growing list of injuries, with the pair picking up separate issues last month that will keep them out for a prolonged period.

Tom Heaton, Tyrell Malacia, Kobbie Mainoo and Amad have all missed the start of the campaign due to injuries picked up in pre-season, meaning United are set to be without seven players for the clash at Emirates.

There was good news on Friday, however, with Erik ten confirming that Rasmus Hojlund is available to play against Arsenal. The summer signing has not featured since his arrival from Atlanta due to a back problem, but the United boss said Hojlund has fully recovered and could even start at the weekend.

United’s numbers were also boosted by the deadline-day transfers of Altay Bayindir, Jonny Evans and Sergio Reguilon, all of whom are available to face the Gunners. However, due to visa issues, Sofyan Amrabat won't be available to make his debut this weekend.

Of the four Friday arrivals, only Reguilon might start in North London. Ten Hag explained the on-loan Tottenham Hotspur man has already trained with the team, hinting he could go straight into the starting XI. The injuries to Shaw and Malacia also mean Reguilon is the only option at left-back.

“He [Reguilon] is a very experienced player, a player for big clubs, a player that's played already a lot of games in La Liga, in the Premier League,” Ten Hag explained. “So, he has a very good background, we have seen he can play very intense football, so we are happy. While we had a problem with Luke Shaw injured, Ty[rell] Malacia injured, they are for [the] long term out, so I think we responded very well on that emergency situation."

As for Arsenal, they have just two long-term absentees, with Jurrien Timber out for the majority of the season with an ACL problem, while Mohamed Elneny has a knee problem. Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus are back after recent knocks, and Takehiro Tomiyasu is an option again after serving a one-match following his red card against Crystal Palace.
