Antony transfer latest: Man Utd 'stance', player's view and agent statement amid exit links

All the latest surrounding Antony's future at Manchester United amid transfer links and criticism of the winger.

Manchester United star Antony has faced plenty of criticism during his time at Old Trafford so far, and he has already seen his name in transfer rumours aplenty. The winger arrived on a mammoth price tag worth more than £80million back in 2022, and he has been under pressure to live up to the level of investment made by the club.

That has led to the Brazilian being linked with an exit ahead of this summer, but his goal against Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-final may indicate a change in form and a potential revival. Here we round up the latest on Antony's future:

Despite transfer rumours aplenty, the latest report from Dean Jones via GiveMeSport suggests United do not want to sell Antony, but not necessarily because of their belief in the player.

The report claims the Red Devils don't want to sell because they don't believe they can recoup the money they paid for the winger. No club is likely to pay more than £80million for Antony, and for that reason it suits United to wait until a later date if they are planning to sell.

Antony on his form

Speaking after his goal against Liverpool, Antony spoke about his need to improve performances to remain at Old Trafford. “I try to learn from each criticism and so improve,” he said. “I have been working silently to evolve and show my football on the field. I know my potential and I know why Man Utd hired me. I want to repay all of this on the field. It was my lifelong dream to be here.”

Ten Hag's view

United boss Erik ten Hag says he has always believed in Antony despite his poor form. “I backed him for a long time,” Ten Hag has said previously. “I know his abilities, great abilities. I know from the past he is unstoppable.

“No defender can stop him because he's one of the quickest in the first 10 yards. When he plays that game I'm sure he will perform. He is resilient, he is a character and he will fight back. I back him. He now has to wait for his chance and once he is there he has to pick up.”

Antony's agent speaks

United's agent Junior Pedroso has previously issues his thoughts on a potential exit. “Manchester has so far not communicated any interest in transferring him in either the January or summer window,” Pedroso told United in Focus. “Antony is focused on these four months of the season so he can improve his performance, knowing that he needs to score goals and assists.

"This is his focus. Today our head is on Manchester United. He knows very well that he needs to score, there’s no point in just playing good games, he has to score goals and provide assists. He is very coherent about this. He will come back different, his head has become a little key and certainly in these four months he will show much more than he showed this season.”
