But he still has a number of areas in need of improving if he wants to at least narrow the gap between United and the title contenders.

Of course, even if the winger agrees a deal with United, a fee would have to be agreed with Ajax before a deal can be done.

Reports claim Ajax want as much as £70million to sell their star winger this summer.

Antony is under contract until 2025.

What Ajax have said

Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder has made it pretty clear he does not want to lose Antony this summer.

“No, no. We have sold a certain amount of players and I am expecting nobody else to leave,” he has said.

“We talk on a daily basis. It would be bad for us if we would lose another starting player.”

What Antony has said

Antony hasn’t specifically spoken about a transfer, but he did give his verdict on Ten Hag during his Ajax days.

He told De Telegraaf: “Every player under his guidance becomes a better footballer through his training,.

“Since my arrival, he has given me a lot of confidence and believed in what I can do.

“I am grateful to him for that. I respect him very much.”
