Anthony Martial 'set to leave' Man Utd and three more could follow but extension decisions made on trio

Anthony Martial looks set to leave Manchester United this summer with contract decisions awaiting on other players

Anthony Martial is 'expected' to leave Manchester United when his contract expires this summer with reports he could even depart the club this month. United boss Erik ten Hag was asked about the player's future on Thursday and said discussions were ongoing between the player and the club.

Martial's deal runs out at the end of the season but United retain an option to trigger a 12-month extension, something they have already done for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof and Hannibal, as reported by Manchester World on Thursday.

However, Manchester World understands Martial will not be offered a new contract before the summer while BBC Sport has claimed the Frenchman could leave the club this month if a suitable offer arrived. Martial arrived at Old Trafford in the summer of 2015 and immediately endeared himself to the United faithful with a game-clinching goal in a 3-1 victory over Liverpool in September 2015.

Since his arrival, he has made 317 appearances for the club, with 90 goals and 55 assists to his name but he has never enjoyed a strong period of consistency with the club. He signed a new five-year deal at Old Trafford in 2019, which is set to expire unless United trigger his one-year extension. Ten Hag was keen to offload the player in the summer but no suitable bids were forthcoming for the forward.

Martial is free to agree pre-contract deals with foreign clubs, and if he does seal a summer move, United will be powerless to keep him even with the 12-month option as his current deal is still set to run out at the end of the season. Another United player with an extension option that has yet to be triggered is Raphael Varane, leaving the ex-Real Madrid man to agree a pre-contract with a foreign club as things stand.

Ten Hag also confirmed on Thursday internal talks were taking place with Varane, although BBC Sport claim he is another player that could be sold for the right price this month. Jonny Evans is also in the final months of his deal at Old Trafford with the one-year contract he signed in the summer not containing an option for a 12-month extension while Tom Heaton is also in the final months of his contract, having his one-year option exercised in the summer.
