Flamengo are reportedly keen for Manchester United to lower their valuation of midfielder Andreas Pereira.

The 25-year-old is on loan to the Brazilian outfit until the end of the season and his early performances have impressed them so much, they want to keep him at the Maracanã Stadium.

He has so far scored three goals in nine league appearances and has also played in the Copa Libertadores, as well as the Copa do Brasil.

Reports from Globo Esporte, who are based in Brazil, says that there is a £16m option to buy clause in the loan contract of Pereira.

They are keen to negotiate that fee to a lesser amount which would give them a realistic chance of signing him permanently. There is still a possibility they could pay the agreed price but that would only be if any of their competitors came in with a rival bid.

The Brazilian’s contract expires at the end of 2023, so there will at least be some money for United to recuperate.

Pereira’s new team are currently second in the league, 10 points behind league leaders Atletico Mineiro, but they do have two games in hand.

At Flamengo with Pereirais former Arsenal defender David Luiz, as well as Kenedy, who is on loan from United’s Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Born in Belgium but eligible for Brazil through his father, the attacking midfielder has one cap for the senior team and a permanent move to Flamengo could strengthen his prospects of a return to Tite’s squad.

Last year, he was sent to Serie A side Lazio on a season-long loan and made a total of 23 outings for the Italian side but could only get two assists and one goal.

Louis van Gaal was the manager who gave him his opportunity in senior football, but he was shipped out on loan following the arrival of José Mourinho, spending time with both Granada and Valencia.

He made a total of 40 appearances in the 2019/20 campaign, earning three assists and two goals. It was the most he had played in a season for the Red Devils, having played 22 times the season before.
