Manchester United picked up all three points at the Etihad Stadium

Manchester United’s Amad Diallo has been hailed by Roy Keane after his late winner against Manchester City. The Red Devils won 2-1 against their rivals at the Etihad Stadium.

The Ivory Coast international impressed all afternoon the visitors and caused issues for City’s defence. He won his side’s penalty before finding the net near the end to send the travelling supporters home happy.

United secured all three points and Keane said after the match on Sky Sports: “Absolutely amazing. (He’s a) 22-year-old player, no fear, playing with courage and punishing City for their mistakes. He had a brilliant day.

“It’s a starting point. They’re still in the bottom half of the league. We can’t get too giddy and excited. Man United have won a league match. It was a big win though. To beat Man City with five minutes to go, fantastic.”

Meanwhile, Gary Neville said on commentary: “He kisses that badge on his shirt. This just does not happen to Manchester City. It doesn’t happen to Pep Guardiola. These fans have not seen the like for many, many years. The older ones will remember some challenging runs, some bad losses but these players, serial winners, serial champions, have not had it like this before.

“For Ruben Amorim and Manchester United and those players, sheer relief. Did they need that. It came from absolutely nowhere. He (Amad) was a beautiful shining light in that red shirt, he was really was, from minute one. Pep Guardiola is scratching his head again.”

Diallo will take a lot of confidence from his showing against City and has become a key player in United’s first-team over recent times. He has made 22 appearances in all competitions this season.

The Red Devils snapped him up as a teenager back in 2021. Prior to his transfer, he rose up through the ranks at Atalanta in Italy.

He was loaned out away from Old Trafford at Rangers and Sunderland to get some experience under his belt. The attacker is quickly becoming a popular figure now and will be eager to keep his form going over the coming weeks and months.

United are back in action on Thursday night with a Carabao Cup away trip to London to play fellow top flight outfit Tottenham Hotspur as they aim to reach the semi-finals. They then lock horns with AFC Bournemouth at home on Sunday as they aim to build some momentum.
