Manchester United attacker Amad has provided an encouraging injury update after he was replaced with what appeared to be a nasty-looking problem against Arsenal on Saturday.

The winger was introduced at half-time in New Jersey as United beat the Gunners 2-0 at the MetLife Stadium, thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho. But Amad’s involvement lasted less than 15 minutes as he went down holding his ankle/achilles area and subsequently hobbled off the pitch, to be replaced by Facundo Pellistri.

Reporter Samuel Luckhurst posted a video post-match of Amad on crutches and it was feared the 21-year-old had sustained a long-term injury. But Amad alleviated those concerns on Sunday when he posted on Instagram to say the problem was ‘nothing serious’.

“I feared the worst, ALHAMDOULILAH nothing serious,” he wrote. “Back soon Inch’ ALLAH.”

It’s not clear at this stage whether Amad could be involved when United take on Real Madrid in Texas on Thursday, and the attacker has impressed so far in pre-season. The Ivorian played in the first halves of the wins over Leeds United and Lyon, prior to his cameo against Arsenal.

Amad has been linked with a loan move away from Old Trafford this summer, following his successful spell at Sunderland last season. ManchesterWorld reported in May that Erik ten Hag planned for Amad to return in pre-season, allowing the United boss time to assess him and make a decision on the player’s immediate future.

With Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford in their ranks, the Red Devils are stacked with attacking options in the wide areas - yet there remains  a possibility that Amad plays a role in the senior set-up this season. A summer injury could actually make that more likely given it might put off interested parties.
