Altay Bayindir has been confirmed as a Manchester United player and has said he is excited to become the first Turkish player to represent the club.

The goalkeeper arrived from Fenerbahce for a fee of £4.3m and has signed a contract running until June 2027, with the option of a further year. Bayindir is set to offer back-up to Andre Onana and replaces Dean Henderson, whose transfer to Crystal Palace was announced on Thursday night.

“It is a huge honour to join Manchester United and become the first Turkish player to represent this incredible club. I have a passion for success, and I will give everything to help this special group of players to achieve our ambitions," the 25-year-old said.

“I cannot wait to start working with such an experienced goalkeeping unit. We will support each other and drive high standards every day so that each of us is ready to perform whenever called upon.”

John Murtough, United's football director added: "Altay is an excellent addition to our squad and adds further quality to our already strong group of experienced goalkeepers. Having consistently performed at a high level in a strong European league, he has the qualities to support us in achieving our ambitions across all competitions this season and beyond.”

The move completes a busy summer of goalkeeping transfer activity at United, with Onana and Bayindir arriving, while David de Gea, Henderson, Nathan Bishop, Matej Kovar and Ondrej Mastny departing. United are also expected to announce the arrival of Sergio Regulion on transfer deadline day.
