‘Agreement’ - Man Utd ‘set to sign’ £32m-rated defender with ‘medical completed’ as £20m departure confirmed

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur for the loan signing of Sergio Reguilon, with an option to end the agreement early in January - according to reports.

United had been seeking to bolster their options at left-back following an injury to Luke Shaw with fears the experienced defender could be sidelined for a number of months with an unspecified muscle injury.

Erik ten Hag’s side had been linked with a move for Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella with reports a deal broke down when the Blues were unwilling to insert a clause which would allow United to end the loan agreement in January if desired.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Thursday night the Red Devils had reached an agreement with Spurs for the signing of Reguilon with The Athletic reporting a medical was completed late into the evening. Crucially, it appears, there is an option for United to end the agreement in January.

Reguilon, 26, joined Tottenham from Real Madrid for a reported £32m in September 2020, signing a five-year deal in North London. Madrid reportedly have a £27.5m buy-back clause as part of the agreement to sell him to Spurs three years ago.

Meanwhile, United have confirmed the departure of goalkeeper Dean Henderson to Crystal Palace with the Red Devils agreeing a £20m deal with the Selhurst Park club. The agreement is worth £15m up front with a potential £5m in add-ons.

Henderson joined the club’s youth set-up aged 11 before progressing into the academy and made his debut in a 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Luton Town in September 2020. He has been sent on a number of loan spells, impressing in recent stints with Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest.

“Saying goodbye to United is an emotional moment for me,” wrote Henderson in an open letter to fans on social media. “This club has been a part of my life since I was a kid.

“From growing up as a United fan, to joining the academy aged 14, to stepping out on the pitch at Old Trafford! The journey has been a dream come true and I feel very blessed and fortunate to have fulfilled that dream.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone in the club who believed in my potential and helped shape my career. To everyone in the academy, my teammates, my family, the managers and the back room staff, your guidance and support has helped me become the player and man I am today.

“And to the fans – your support has meant the world to my family and I. I’ve been United since I was a kid, and being able to wear the United badge on my chest has been an honour beyond words.

“I never took for granted the responsibility that came with wearing the shirt. We’ve had some highs and lows but I want to thank all of you for sticking by me throughout. Thank you for the memories and I wish the club all the very best for the future.”
