Agent of £60m Manchester United transfer target handed six month ban - but it won't rule out summer move

The agent of Crystal Palace ace Michael Olise has been handed a six month ban by the Football Association.

A statement from the FA released on Thursday confirmed Reading FC and four individuals have been sanctioned following misconduct charges for breaches of FA Rule E1.2 between 1 March 2019 and 16 July 2019. It relates to the period of time when Olise was contracted to the Berkshire club.

Glen Tweneboah, who is a registered intermediary still acting on behalf of Olise, was charged with misconduct after he was found to have breached the FA’s agent rules when Olise signed a three-year professional contract with Reading in the summer 2019.

Tweneboah reached an agreement that would have seen him eligible for a 10 per cent stake of Olise’s future transfer fee, which is prohibited by the FA’s rules. Under current regulations, only clubs and players can benefit from such an agreement and no payment was ever actually made.

However, the six-month ban will only come into action on October 4 and will not prevent Tweneboah from brokering a deal before it comes into play.

Manchester United are one of many teams interested in a deal to sign the 22-year-old in the summer transfer window, with Arsenal understood to be monitoring his situation. It is believed Olise has a release clause in his current deal and while there are some doubts over what the exact figure is, it is believed to be somewhere in the region of £60 million. That does not mean it would cost that much to sign him though, with Palace likely to consider any offers that are above their club-record sale of Aaron Wan-Bissaka to United for £50 million in 2019.
