Andy Cole, who played for Manchester United from 1995 to 2001, has admitted he is surprised the club are trying to sign Wout Weghorst from Burnley. The Red Devils are ‘confident’ of securing a deal for the Holland international, as per 90min.
The forward is currently out on loan at Besiktas and was given the green light to temporarily leave Turf Moor following the Clarets’ relegation to the Championship. He caught the eye at the World Cup last month under Louis van Gaal and is now poised for a shock switch to Old Trafford this winter.

Hide AdWeghorst was a hit at Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga and fired 70 goals in 144 games. However, he has struggled since his switch to Burnley and found the net only twice for them last term.
Cole, who fired 121 goals for United during his spell, has delivered his verdict on the Dutchman, as per Casinos En Ligne:
“Wow! When I heard about Weghorst I was as surprised as anybody. I know he got a couple of goals in the World Cup and he’s on loan in Turkey now but he had an absolutely terrible time at Burnley.
“You can only say if he had such a tough time at Burnley what can we really expect if he comes to Manchester United?.”

Hide AdUnited have been linked with a couple of other names over recent times too, with former player Memphis Depay at Barcelona being one of them. Cole has said:
“Memphis Depay is one that would really surprise me if it gets done. He came to United when he was a youngster and it didn’t work out then so you’ve got to say if it did happen what makes you think it’s going to work out this time? There’s the Dutch connection now with the manager and while this is all hypothetical you’ve got to be concerned that history could repeat itself.”
Weghorst would certainly give Erik ten Hag’s side something different in attack and a plan B in games. His record in England is a worry but he would fill the void they currently have in their striking department until the end of this campaign at least.
