The 22-year-old is set to play a key role at United going forward, with Ten Hag understood to be a huge fan of both his ability and work ethic.

Amad only made 12 appearances across all competitions last season after suffering a knee injury during last season's summer tour, and not even a famous winner over Liverpool did enough to earn him a regular spot in the team.

The Ivorian was much improved by the end of the campaign though and he has already spoken with Ten Hag about the role he will play next season. "We had a conversation, a positive conversation, and he said to me good things," Amad told reporters ahead of the pre-season clash with Real Betis.

"I believe in the manager. Last season I didn't play a lot, but I think I will have good things this season. The manager, everyone thinks is a good guy. I speak with him and he gives me a lot of confidence."

Amad has still only made 21 competitive appearances for United since he signed from Atalanta in 2020, and has twice been out on loan, with spells at Rangers and Sunderland respectively.

After so much time on the periphery he is now looking to push on and cement a regular starting spot next season. He added: "I think everyone wants to play. That's why in the training you need to put everything to fight and start in the XI. We have a good team, good players, so the final one is the manager who decides who is on the pitch and who is on the bench. You need to be ready and everyone is important in the team."
