One midfielder they have been monitoring is Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde. According to El Nacional, United initially made an offer of €50 million, however the Spanish giants were quick to turn it down.

Ralf Rangnick’s side aren’t giving up in their bid to sign the Uruguayan and reportedly raised the offer to €60 million.

While Madrid president, Florentino Perez, was prepared to accept the offer, their manager Carlo Ancelotti wants to keep hold of Valverde.

The 23-year-old is able to cover multiple positions for Los Blancos and has made 16 league appearances so far this season - proving to be an important squad player for Ancelotti.

It is unclear whether the Red Devils will make a third bid for Valverde, who has mainly warmed the bench behind veterans Luka Modric and Toni Kroos for the past few years.

With the duo both over 30 years old, Ancelotti could see Valverde as the future of Madrid’s midfield and it could take a lot to prise the star away from the Bernabeu.

However, Pogba’s next destination could potentially be Madrid and the Red Devils could use that as a way to secure the signing of Valverde.
