Pep Guardiola has criticised Yerry Mina for his actions during Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Everton on Sunday.

The Colombian defender was involved in a number of on-field confrontations during the match and within a minute of the encounter getting under way he was called over by the referee following some pushing and shoving with Erling Haaland. Mina also fell to the deck after Laporte aggresively nudged his arm away in the first half, while the Everton centre-back also had words with Phil Foden and Jack Grealish at a later stage.

After the final whistle, Guardiola made his way onto the pitch and was seen arguing with Mina while Grealish was dragged away by his team-mates. Asked about the incident afterwards, Guardiola said: “It is not necessary what he does - with everyone.

“It’s a football game, it’s not necessary to do what he does every single game. I told him. He is a good enough player to avoid these things.”

Pushed on what exactly Mina does, Guardiola replied: He knows. Ask him. This is not physical, this is not mental.

“There are things that are not necessary to do that he does. This time with Aymeric, Jack, everybody. Ask him. Invite him to the press conference.”

However, Sean Dyche said in his post-match press conference that he had no idea there was an issue with Mina and the City team. “He [Guardiola] didn’t say anything to me,” the Everton boss explained.

“I didn’t know anything. Nothing was said from any of their bench to me. Every manager has an eye on these things and I wouldn’t question Guardiola.”

An Ilkay Gundogan brace and Erling Haaland’s header saw City come away from Merseyside with a vital win on Sunday and, at least temporarily, moved four points clear of second-place Arsenal.
