The goalkeeper was part of the Manchester City squad that arrived at the Etihad on Sunday.

There was one unfamiliar face for the assembled Manchester City supporters when the team bus pulled up outside of the Etihad Stadium on Sunday ahead of the Premier League title-decider against West Ham United.

As Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish hopped off the coach, the lesser-known True Grant was part of the first-team group that entered the ground.

The goalkeeper has been drafted in due to the injury to Ederson, who will miss the last two games of the season, and was joined by stoppers Stefan Ortega and Scott Carson. Grant wasn’t named in the matchday 20 against West Ham, but participated in the pre-match warm-up and it could be an invaluable experience for the teenager to be around Pep Guardiola’s side in such a high-profile game.

He has previously been named in a matchday squad, when the keeper was an unused substitute for the Champions League trip to Red Star Belgrade in December.

The goalkeeper has been a regular for the Under-21s this season, while he also played every minute of the club’s FA Youth Cup triumph, conceding just two goals across the six matches in the competition.

A modern-day keeper, Grant is comfortable building up from the back, in addition to being an excellent shot-stopper.

The 18-year-old’s father, Lee, will be a recognisable figure for most Premier League fans, following a distinguished career that saw him represent the likes of Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday, Burnley and Stoke City. Grant senior ended his career at Manchester United and retired in 2022.

During his time at Old Trafford, the former keeper became well acquainted with Kieran McKenna, who was a member of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s coaching staff. The Northern Irishman was appointed Ipswich Town manager in 2021 and Grant joined his backroom team after retiring.

The Tractor Boys gained promotion to the Premier League this season, and there could be a father-son face off between the Grant next term.
