West Ham 2-2 Man City: Player ratings & man of the match as City come from two behind

Manchester City moved four points clear at the top of the table thanks to a second-half comeback in the capital.

Manchester City maintained their advantage in the title race after they drew 2-2 with West Ham United on Sunday.

But it was far from plane sailing for Pep Guardiola’s men, who trailed by two goals at the break and netted twice in a dramatic second period.

City dominated possession in the first half without creating many chances, and the best came via a Gabriel Jesus shot which went wide and a Kevin De Bruyne free-kick that was comfortably held from Lukasz Fabianski.

But when the goals came it was the visitors who netted. The first came after Jarrod Bowen beat City’s offside trap, rounded Ederson and then passed the ball into the back of the open net.

The West Ham winger also grabbed the second in a similar manner, as he took advantage of Oleksandr Zinchenko dropping deep and drove forward with the ball before smashing into the back of the net.

Yet it didn’t take long for City to half the deficit after the break - just four minutes, in fact. Rodri provided the assist when he headed the ball back to Jack Grealish at the edge of the area, with the shot from the England international deflected in off Craig Dawson.

The champions were much improved after the break, and Fabianski had to be at his best to keep out efforts from Gabriel Jesus and Zinchenko. While West Ham were second best, they did create a few efforts with Bowen hitting the side netting and seeing a strike deflected wide, while Michail Antonio chipped wide from the corner of the box.

But City got back on level terms on 69 minutes when Vladimir Coufal headed into his own goal from a Riyad Mahrez free-kick.

Guardiola’s side also missed the chance to win the game when Craig Dawson fouled Jesus in the box, but Mahrez’s spot-kick was excellently saved by Fabianski.

Here’s how we rated the players…
