Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold believes Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne is the ‘best midfielder in the world’. The pair have tussled for the Premier League title over recent years but there is evidently huge from the Reds man.
De Bruyne made the move to the Etihad Stadium back in 2015 from Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg and has since helped the Blues win the league four times, the Carabao Cup on five occasions and the FA Cup once.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Alexander-Arnold has delivered his verdict on his rival and was full of praise: “[He’s the] best midfielder in the world, hands down,” opined the England international. “He constantly keeps trying to sneak into my top three Premier League midfielders ever.
“I’ve never seen someone be able to create like he does. He will go down as one of the best midfielders in Premier League history, for me.”
De Bruyne’s next target will be to win the Champions League with City. He played a key role in them getting to the final of the competition back in 2021, although Pep Guardiola’s men lost in the final in Porto against his former club Chelsea.
The Belgium international has suffered more disappointment recently too as he couldn’t prevent Belgium from being knocked out of the World Cup. They failed to get out of their group in Qatar and ex-Premier League boss Roberto Martinez has walked away from the job as a result.
De Bruyne’s focus will soon be back on City’s charge for another title and they currently have work to do with Arsenal five points ahead at the top of the Premier League table. It has still been a solid season from the 31-year-old, and he has made 14 league appearances so far, chipping in with three goals and 10 assists.
