The ‘sensational’ Manchester City player Jamie Carragher wishes Liverpool would sign

The Liverpool legend would love for his former club to sign this world-class City midfielder, he says.

Manchester City have one of the strongest squads in world football, with Pep Guardiola’s side boasting significant strength in depth.

And now Jamie Carragher has praised one member of Guardiola’s side in particular - Kevin De Bruyne.

The Liverpool legend has dubbed City’s No.17 as ‘the best midfield player in the world’ when discussing with pundit Gary Neville who he’d choose to sign for the Reds if he had the choice.

Speaking on Sky Sports, as reported in the Daily Star, former England international Carragher said: "Kevin De Bruyne. I think he’s one of the best players in the world - certainly, in the last two or three years, he’s been the best midfield player in the world.

"People always say Liverpool lack creativity in midfield. I think it’s a bit harsh because I think Liverpool get their creativity from different areas, it’s just the way the team’s set up.

"That midfield three, whoever it is, does a lot of work for the front three and for the full-backs. So, they’ve got a job to do and they do it really well.

"I just think that Kevin De Bruyne is absolutely sensational. I think in that right channel, maybe getting in the way of Trent, I don’t know... But I’d say Kevin De Bruyne is the first one that springs to mind."

‘De Bruyne has something unique’

Carragher isn’t the only person to praise De Bruyne as of late, with Guardiola calling the 30-year-old ‘exceptional’.

"He’s getting better. I don’t think [he has far to go]," Guardiola said after the Sky Blues 1-1 draw with Southampton on the weekend.

"We’ve had six years together with Kevin. What we’ve done when he was fit … he has something unique in the world. We know it. Kevin is an exceptional player."

De Bruyne is a fan favourite at the Etihad Stadium and has made 287 appearances for the club since his arrival from Wolfsburg in 2015.

During his time at City, the Belgian international has netted 74 goals and made 111 assists in all competitions.
