Southampton v Manchester City: live stream, TV details, how to watch, injury news and predicted line-ups

Pep Guardiola’s men will be looking to extend their winning run on the south coast against a side who caused them problems earlier this season.

Manchester City could make it 13 Premier League wins in a row when they travel to St Mary’s to face Southampton in a 5:30pm kick-off this Saturday.

The champions beat title rivals Chelsea 1-0 last weekend to extend their lead at the top of the table, which now stands at 11 points, although second-place Liverpool do have a game in hand on City.

Pep Guardiola’s men have also won 15 of the last 16 in all competitions, the exception being that final Champions League group-stage game against RB Leipzig where they’d already secured top spot.

Despite that, Southampton did manage to hold City to a goalless draw when the sides last met in September, with a late Raheem Sterling winner being ruled out for offside.

For the Saints, they approach this game in a relatively good run of form. The south-coast outfit have lost just one of the last four in all competitions, although that solitary defeat did come in their most recent game, with Wolverhampton Wanderers beating them 3-1 at Molineux last Saturday.

Southampton head into the game in 12th and are nine points clear of the drop zone, but are 11 points off seventh place and unlikely to be involved in a race for a European spot in the second half of the campaign.

What’s the latest team news?

City have been rocked by a Covid-19 outbreak in the squad over recent weeks, and had a depleted roster against Chelsea last week.

However, a pre-match training video suggested they could be close to full-strength again with Oleksandr Zinchenko and Cole Palmer the only first-team players not pictured in any club-led content this week.

Guardiola confirmed in Friday’s pre-match press conference that Zinchenko will not be involved at St Mary’s, nor will Riyad Mahrez, despite Algeria’s elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations on Thursday. However, there was better news surrounding Nathan Ake, who Guardiola said is available for selection.

As for the opposition, in his pre-match press conference Ralph Hassenhuttl revealed Tino Livramento, Will Smallbone and Alex McCarthy will not be available due to injury.

Moussa Djenepo is away at the Africa Cup of Nations, but Theo Walcott and Mohamed Elyounoussi could return to the squad after recent Covid-induced absences.
