Manchester City have not agreed a deal to sign Troyes winger Savio, despite reports claiming the transfer has been wrapped up.

Fabrizio Romano wrote on X that City had agreed to sign the teenager, before appearing to row back on those claims on Tuesday morning.

“Manchester City will complete Savio deal by the end of February as documents are already being prepared between all parties,” the Italian said on social media, adding that he will join Pep Guardiola’s side in the summer.

ManchesterWorld understands that no agreement is in place between the two clubs, although there is significant interest from City’s side and a summer transfer remains a real possibility. The winger has impressed for title-chasing Girona this season, with Savio has played every La Liga game in 2023/24 and has provided five goals and seven assists.

The player is already part of the City Football group, with Troyes and Girona among City’s 11 sister sides in the multi-club ownership model. It’s a controversial system, with several critics pointing to the fact that Savio became Troyes’ record signing in 2022 and could leave without ever playing a single game for the club, having spent two years on loan at PSV Eindhoven and Girona.

As for City, the signing of young South Americans is becoming commonplace at the Etihad. In each of the last three January windows, Argentinians Julian Alvarez, Maximo Perrone and Claudio Echeverri have joined City, along with Nahuel Bustos, who signed in the summer of 2021. City purchased Kayky in the same window, a year after fellow Brazilians Diego Rosa and Yan Couto arrived.

On the pitch, City closed the gap to leaders Liverpool to just two points on Monday night thanks to a 3-1 win over Brentford, with Phil Foden netting just a second career hat-trick. Erling Haaland made his first Premier League start in almost two months, with Guardiola naming an attacking line-up that featured Kevin De Bruyne, Alvarez, Bernardo Silva, Haaland and Foden.
