Man City ‘set’ to complete first summer signing as Fabrizio Romano reveals transfer timeline

Pep Guardiola looks set to bolster his options in the wide areas.

Manchester City have completed the signing of Savio, according to reports.

That the Premier League champions are set to complete a deal for the winger is nothing new, and it has been reported for several months that a deal is in place to sign Savio from Troyes, City’s sister club.

Reports have since suggested that a decision would be made later this summer on whether the Brazilian remains at the Etihad or departs on loan this season. That was until Fabrizio Romano claimed on Tuesday morning that the deal has finally been completed and he will head to Manchester ‘after the Copa America’.

The journalist added: “Despite many proposals, City don’t sell Savio and bring him back.”

Meanwhile, The Athletic reported that Savio has signed on a five-year deal. “City have informed Savio of their intention for him to be part of their first-team plans under head coach Pep Guardiola next season,” the outlet added.

The 20-year-old will therefore compete for a spot in the wide attacking areas with Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, Oscar Bobb and Jack Grealish. Savio impressed for La Liga side Girona last season - another member of the City Football Group - and registered 11 goals and 10 assists from 41 appearances.

Those displays earned him a call up to the international side and Savio has played in both of Brazil’s Copa America encounters at Copa America this summer, netting in the 4-1 win over Paraguay.

Meanwhile, City are interested in signing fellow Brazilian Bruno Guimaraes, although the Blues opted against meeting the player’s £100m buyout fee and could return later this window and hope to negotiate a deal for a reduced fee.
