New Man City signing Savinho reveals preferred position & vows to get get fans ‘off their seats’

Manchester City latest arrival has described himself as a 'a Brazilian who likes to play on the front foot'.

Manchester City’s new summer signing has made an exciting declaration ahead of the new season.

Perhaps unsurprisingly for a tricky, attacking Brazilian winger, Savinho has said he hopes his style of football will help to entertain City fans.

The 20-year-old, who provided nine goals and 10 assists in La Liga last season, joined for a fee of up to €40m (£33.6m) and has agreed a five-year contract at the Etihad. Despite reports of a possible loan this term, City plan for Savinho to remain part of Pep Guardiola’s squad with director of football Txiki Begiristain claiming he has a ‘big role to play for Manchester City this season and beyond’.

The Brazil international also revealed he is comfortable playing in several positions. “I can play on the left, on the right. I can play inside too, but my best position, the one I like playing the most, is playing on the right wing,” Savinho explained. “But wherever the boss chooses to play me, I’ll help the team.

“I’m a Brazilian who likes to play on the front foot, to be happy, to play joyful football. I like playing one against one, making assists, scoring goals too, and helping the team. My main characteristic, what I like the most, is being happy and getting fans up off their seats.”

Last season, Savinho played predominantly from the left wing for Girona but was selected on the opposite flank for Brazil this summer.

Due to his involvement at the Copa America, Savinho won’t join his City team-mates in the USA for their pre-season matches against Celtic, AC Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea. His first game for his new club could come in the Community Shield on 10 August against Manchester United.
