Roy Keane is confident Manchester City will bounce back swiftly from their Community Shield defeat against Arsenal.

Pep Guardiola’s men lost on penalties to the Gunners at Wembley after Leandro Trossard’s deflected late effort cancelled out Cole Palmer’s fine strike in normal time.

It was a welcome win for Mikel Arteta’s men against their title rivals last season but Keane quickly handed out a dose of reality.

“You have to give Arsenal a little bit of credit of course, you want to get into good habits of winning football matches, but you also have to step back,” said the ITV pundit. “Remember, it’s a friendly match. This City team will react of course.

“There’ll be a lot of good energy in the Arsenal dressing room and happy people and that’s what you want. You’re in a better place because when you lose it does hurt you. That's why they are top players.

“I think it was more important for Arsenal than City today and they’ll be happy with themselves but I don’t think this will have any bearing going forwards in terms of the bigger picture which is winning league titles.”
