The Brazilian, who joined City for an initial fee of £9m in 2021, has made two first-team appearances. Kayky came on in the latter stages of wins over Norwich City and Swindon Town in 2022.

But he has not featured for Pep Guardiola’s side in two and half years. Kayky has since spent time on loan at Portuguese side Pacos de Ferreira, and Bahia, City’s sister club in Brazil.

The attacker made 28 appearances for the latter but his stint with the club had to be cut short early due to injury. As a result, Kayky has not played a competitive game in over a year, and it’s hoped his loan in the Netherlands will help rejuvenate his once very promising career.

City didn’t officially sign for City until January 2022, but such was the excitement surrounding the then 18-year-old’s talent, he moved the previous September to help acclimatise before the transfer officially went through in the new year.

“Everyone at the Club wishes Kayky all the best during his loan spell with Sparta Rotterdam,” City said on their website as the deal was confirmed, just five days before the summer window shuts.

Rotterdam have drawn all three of their opening games in the new /25 Eredivisie season, including at the weekend when they held Feyenoord to a 1-1 draw.

The six-time Dutch champions are managed by Jeroen Rijsdijk, and the playing squad includes former Swansea City midfielder Jonathan de Guzman. Kayky could make his debut for the club when Rotterdam take on Willem this Sunday.
