Manchester City recorded another comfortable win last weekend when they overcame Southampton 4-0 in the Premier League.

Joao Cancelo, Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez and Erling Haaland were among the goals as the Blues temporarily moved top of the table. That was until Arsenal beat Liverpool 3-2 at the Emirates the following day and reclaimed first position thanks to a Bukayo Saka brace and a strike from Gabriel Martinelli.

There were also convincing wins for Chelsea and Newcastle United, with the latter beating Brentford 5-1 and Graham Potter grabbing a first home Premier League win as his side overcame Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0. Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion was less overwhelming than the aforementioned results, but just as vital for Spurs after a bad recent run.

It’s no surprise, therefore, that City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle and Tottenham dominate the latest WhoScored team of the week. In fact, the five teams contributed 10 of the positions, with Leicester City’s Wout Faes selected despite the Foxes suffering a disappointing 2-1 loss to Bournemouth.

Whoscored rate every player across Premier League matches and produce a rating out of 10 which denotes how well they played. The website claim their ratings are ‘based on a unique, comprehensive statistical algorithm, calculated live during the game. There are over 200 raw statistics included in the calculation of a player’s/team’s rating, weighted according to their influence within the game’.

The highest scoring players are then used to form a best XI from the previous week, with City having the most players from any one side for last weekend and the highest individual score. Below is the WhoScored XI and ratings, accompanied with pictures from the weekend matches.
