Manchester City duo Phil Foden and Bunny Shaw have been voted Football Writers’ (FWA) Player of Year for the men and women’s categories.

Foden has enjoyed a stellar season and has scored 22 goals and 10 assists this season, and has regularly been City’s go-to man, ahead of Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland.

Foden earned 42 percent of FWA vote, with Declan Rice coming in second and City team-mate Rodri finishing third. The top six was made up of Martin Odegaard, Ollie Watkins and Cole Palmer, while the likes of Bernardo Silva, Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Bukayo Saka also earned votes.

“Being named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year is a huge honour,” Foden told the FWA. “I’m very, very happy to receive this award but I could not have done it without the help of my team-mates.

We have a very special squad of players at City, and I’m privileged to be a part of that group. I want to thank all my team-mates as well as Pep and the coaches for all the support and advice they have given me.

“I strive to be the best that I can be every single day and that is all down to the way the manager and my colleagues always seek to improve and get better.”
