Pep Guardiola says he wants Jack Grealish to be ‘angry’ after Man City selection decision

Pep Guardiola has said he wants Jack Grealish to be ‘angry’ that he wasn’t involved in Saturday’s 6-1 win over Bournemouth.

The ex-Aston Villa star, was an unused substitute in the comfortable victory over the Cherries, following two excellent displays in the games before against Young Boys and Manchester United.

In Grealish’s place, Jeremy Doku started on the left wing on Saturday and put in an outstanding display, registering a goal and four assists as Manchester City moved back to the Premier League summit. With such strong competition for places, Guardiola said he wants Grealish - and any City players who come out of the side - to fight to immediately regain their place in the side.

“I want Jack angry and I want him to play good, and then Doku - be angry that he hasn't played the last two games,” Guardiola said.  “This is the way to maintain consistency at that level

“Jack is back. The way he played at Old Trafford to give us more composure in that position was decisive for us. We need everyone. A lot of games come from many games in the past and everyone has to compete.

“As much as Jeremy and Jack perform, and I can play both at the same time, and when they don't play don’t be angry but train better the next day because the moment is coming and when you are mentally there in the head you will perform well and we will win games, and you will be happy and everyone will be happy. This is what we have to do.”
