Pep Guardiola reveals Manchester City transfer plans amid Kyogo Furuhashi interest

The Manchester City manager was also asked about the prospect of Raheem Sterling returning to the club.

Pep Guardiola has said he does not expect Manchester City to complete any more signings in the transfer market following the arrival of Ilkay Gundogan, but has not fully ruled out a final move in the window.

Gundogan’s shock return to City brings their total number of summer signings up to two, along with Savinho’s arrival, which has added more depth in the wide areas. But Julian Alvarez’s departure to Atletico Madrid still leaves City light on options in the attacking areas, and lacking cover for Erling Haaland.

Celtic’s Kyogo Furuhashi has been linked with a move to City and is a player the club admire, even if a transfer looks unlikely. With the window set to shut in just a week’s time, Guardiola was asked about the prospect of further signings coming through the door.

“I don’t know what is going to happen,” he replied. ”Could happen something in terms of injuries, hopefully not. Right now I don’t think so.”

With Gundogan coming back to City, it has also raised questions about the possibility of another ex-player returning. Raheem Sterling has been all but told to find a new club by Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, but a move to the Etihad looks unlikely.

“He is a Chelsea player, absolutely,” Guardiola said ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash against Ipswich Town. “The time we live together so I just wish him all the best. If you ask me this question when Gundo was in Barcelona the answer the same.”
