Pep Guardiola has said he has no problem with Kevin De Bruyne shouting at him during Manchester City’s Champions League win over Real Madrid.

A viral video emerged of the midfielder screaming at his manager and telling him to ‘shut up’ during the 4-0 semi-final win, after Guardiola had berated De Bruyne for failing to pass the ball.

But Guardiola insisted this is nothing strange for the passionate Belgian, and the City boss said he needs these sorts of reactions to remain ‘competitive’.

"The action with Kevin, I love it. We shout each other. I like this from Kevin,” said Guardiola.  Sometimes it’s a little bit flat, I like this energy.

“It’s not the first time, you don’t see it, but he shouts at me in training. This is what we need of him. After that he becomes the best. We were 2-0 up and in the first moment, Gundo [Ilkay Gundogan] lost the ball and Kevin lost two or three in a row, we didn’t need that in the game. In the first half we didn’t do one action of that type.

“At half-time spoke we about controlling the game, we have to control, to drop them and turn them. We didn’t do it. Kevin stays calm and makes an incredible assist. How many times has that had happened? Jack [Grealish] did the opposite, he could run but helps the team and joins the passes. It’s football, it can happen. It must happen to be competitive, to be a good team.”

De Bruyne put in another brilliant performance as City beat the European champions 4-0 in the Champions League second leg on Wednesday, and provided two assists during the game - the first for Bernardo Silva and the second coming after 76 minutes when his cross was turned in by Manuel Akanji.
