Pep Guardiola has revealed Jack Grealish will not be fit to face Manchester United this weekend.

The Manchester City winger was replaced in the first half of the win over Luton Town on Tuesday night, and cut a dejected figure as he trudged off the pitch and sat on the pitch. Guardiola said after the game that he suspected Grealish had suffered a recurrence of the groin injury that ruled him out for two matches in February.

Speaking ahead of the derby, Guardiola explained that he does not have a full diagnosis on Grealish's injury yet, but said the attacker will not be fit to play any part this month.

"He will not be fit for this weekend," said the City manager. "When he will come back, I don’t know."

Asked about dealing with the setback, Guardiola added: "He doesn't have an alternative. There are always setbacks in life and it's how you overcome [them]."

In a separate answer, Guardiola also said that the former Aston Villa star is unlikely to be involved in England's games against Brazil and Belgium on 23 and 26 March. "No, I don’t think so. I need to speak to Gareth [Southgate] but think he will not be ready. I don't know exactyl but I think he has to recover well to use him as much as possible."

The extended spell on the sidelines means Grealish will sit out Sunday's derby as well as upcoming games against Copenhagen, Liverpool, Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion. The 28-year-old is the only City player definitely ruled out ahead of the weekend, although Josko Gvardiol has missed the four games and is a doubt with a knee injury.
