Pep Guardiola claimed Liverpool are ’one of the best sides in the whole of football history’, as Manchester City moved above them in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

A 3-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion saw the champions regain top spot with just six games remaining in the race for the title.

Liverpool had sat at the league’s summit for 24 hours following the 4-0 win over Manchester United, but City’s victory at the Etihad moved them back above the Reds.

The Sky Blues could hold a four-point advantage over Liverpool by the time they host Everton on Sunday, given Guardiola’s men are in action a day before when they face relegation-threatened Watford.

However, the City manager didn’t seem to think there was any advantage in his side playing first at the weekend, and reiterated his belief that they will probably have to win all of their final six games to be crowned champions.

“They are going to win all the games, so we have to feel it,” Guardiola told reporters after City’s win over Brighton.

“It is just one month in the Premier League and we are going to do everything we can in our body, our mind, our private lives to do the best in every single game. It’s just six games and we are going to do our best. Afterwards, who knows what is going to happen.

“Liverpool are one of the best sides in the whole of football history - we are facing one of the best teams ever,” he later added. “They have everything.

“That’s why being there with them means a lot after winning Premier Leagues in the past. The players know it. It’s a pity because the game we played here against them [in the league], we were better than them and we deserved to win, but unfortunately we could not do it. But it does not change much if it’s four points or one point.”
