The Manchester City manager was also asked if Ilkay Gundogan will be available this weekend.

Pep Guardiola has revealed Rodri and Savinho are doubts for Saturday’s Premier League game against Ipswich Town, with the latter almost certainly set to miss out.

Manchester City host the newly promoted side in their first home game of the 2024/25 campaign, on the back of last week’s win at Chelsea.

Savinho came off at half-time at Stamford Bridge and Guardiola said post-match that the Brazilian had suffered a minor knee injury. “Apparently it’s not a big, big problem. Will be ready for hopefully next Saturday,” the City boss said.

But speaking five days on, Guardiola explained that the knee issue is still causing him a slight discomfort. “Yeah feels better, I don’t think he is completely top but part of the training and we will see today and tomorrow what we want to do with him,” he said.

While Savinho is likely to play some part on Saturday, Rodri is not expected to be involved. The midfielder missed last week’s trip to Chelsea and has not yet returned to training following the injury he suffered in the Euro 2024 final.

“He is not with the group, maybe today partial train,” Guardiola said. Asked if Rodri could feature against Ipswich, he replied: “I don’t think so but we will see today.”

The Catalan also confirmed Ilkay Gundogan will be available if his international clearance is confirmed before the match, following his return from Barcelona.

Elsewhere, City are expected to have a fully fit squad, with Jack Grealish available following a recent knock which forced him to sit out the Community Shield two weeks ago.
