Paul Merson says he’ll get Tottenham tattoo if they beat Man City & rights off Arsenal hopes

The former midfielder has no faith in Spurs helping out Arsenal in the final week of the season.

Paul Merson has claimed he will get a Tottenham tattoo if they manage to beat Manchester City on Tuesday night, and hand Arsenal the advantage in the Premier League title race.

Pep Guardiola’s side head to Spurs knowing they need to win in order to put themselves in pole position ahead of the final round of league fixtures this weekend. City are currently a point behind Arsenal with an inferior goal difference, so need to win their game in hand in order to leapfrog the Gunners in the table.

The odds are certainly in the champions’ favour, and City have won their last seven league games, averaging four goals per match in that run. Meanwhile, Spurs are in dire form and, prior to Saturday’s win over Burnley, had lost four on the bounce.

Add in that a Tottenham win could tee up Arsenal to lift the Premier League trophy for the first time in 20 years, and Merson doesn’t have much faith that Ange Postecoglou’s side will do his former team a favour.

“I said after the Aston Villa game, when Arsenal got beat at home, I said it was all over then,” the ex-midfielder said on Sky Sports. “Nothing has changed my mind. Man City just do what they do.

“It’s disheartening at the moment, and they’re doing it under pressure week in, week out. I don’t think we give them enough respect, Man City. They’re just a phenomenal football team.

“Arsenal are probably going to finish second. If you're relying on Tottenham to win or draw a football match... no. If they win that, I will have a Tottenham tattoo, I will. [I'll put it] where you can't see it."

After City’s midweek trip to Spurs, they face West Ham United on the final day of the season, in what will be David Moyes’ last game in charge of the Hammers, while Arsenal face Everton at the Emirates on Sunday.
