"I designed it. It's got a massive picture of my head on all the tops!"

Former Oasis man and avid Manchester City fan Noel Gallagher has confirmed some special news for next season. Gallagher has said City will have an Oasis themed kit, and he claims to have designed it himself.

The kit will be the club's third kit, and the nod to Oasis will be for the band’s 30th anniversary of the release of Definitely Maybe. The debut album was released on August 29 1994.

Speaking to the BBC, Noel said: "I can't say much, but it's a Definitely Maybe-inspired third kit and it's far-out. I've seen it, I designed it. It's got a massive picture of my head on all the tops! No, it's great. It's been a real honour to do it for the 30th anniversary.”

Gallagher was tight-lipped about the design of the shirt. However, with the kit likely to be out around the start of the new season in August, there will be a few months of speculation until further official details are announced.

What Oasis influences might be on the kit?

The possible influences on the kit could be one or more of many. If you’re thinking of a niche, there could be a nod to Johnny Marr as the album was mixed at his Manchester studio. However, Marr wasn’t the biggest fan of the album and had some critique of it.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see influences from the album cover make it to the kit. The image was taken in the house of guitarist Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs and was influenced by the back of a 1966 Beatles Compilation Album.

Features on this include a wineglass on the floor, which was filled with Ribena rather than red wine due to the soft drink showing up as more red in photos than the wine. The yellow, blue, white and black colour scheme was a common one for the Brit-Pop scene and it can be at least speculated that similar colours may feature in the kit.

Another niche yet possible inclusion on the shirt could be a nod to the American composer Burt Bacharach. A picture of Burt is propped up next to the sofa where Noel Gallagher is sitting, then again this would be one of the more niche inclusions.

City’s old home, Maine Road, would go on to be a key part of Oasis early years rising to the top of music. They performed at the ground on two occasions in 1996, and this would seem like an easy connection between the club and the band.

It's not the first link up this year between an iconic Manchester band and club after United's Stone Roses clothing range.
