Nottingham Forest could be without 10 players for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Manchester City.

The Midlands club lost Willy Boly and Scott McKenna to injury last week, and their lack of defensive options mean the club have applied to the Premier League to add Steve Cook to their 25-man squad. The defender might be involved at the City Ground on Saturday, with Joe Worrall and Felipe also options for Steve Cooper.

The Forest manager confirmed that Ryan Yates will miss out as well as he recovers from injury, while Jesse Lingard is a doubt as he deals with two knocks. “Jesse is still nurturing two niggles, his Achilles’ and his knee, that he’s struggled to get rid of completely, and it’s held him back at times. We’re working with him. We’ll see on the weekend or beyond that, we don’t know,” said Cooper.

Meanwhile, the 43-year said Taiwo Awoniyi’s recovery from a groin injury continues, but he won’t be involved at the weekend. "He’s doing alright. He’s progressing, slowly,” said Cooper.

"I can’t give you a date on Taiwo, but I know he’s progressing really well. Cheikhou [Kouyate] is as well. Omar [Richards], Moussa [Niakhate], they’re all working well.

“We’re working strongly with them. They are all at different stages of their recovery. Maybe in a couple of weeks I’ll have a bit more information on Taiwo."

Elsewhere, Dean Henderson, Giulian Biancone and Moussa Niakhate remain out with long-term problems, meaning Forest have almost an entire XI of injured players.

Pep Guardiola doesn’t have the same issues, with John Stones his only confirmed absentee. The defender is suffering from a hamstring issue and is expected to be out for a few more weeks.

Jack Grealish is a slight doubt after he went off in the latter stages of City’s win over Arsenal on Wednesday night, but the issue is not expected to prevent him featuring against Forest. With City back in Champions League action on Wednesday, Guardiola may opt to rotate his squad this weekend.

Doubts: Lingard (Forest); Grealish (City)

Ruled out: Henderson, Boly, McKenna, Richards, Kouyate, Yates, Biancone, Niakhate, Awoniyi (Forest); Stones (City)
