Pep Guardiola will be hoping to win the trophy once again this term. His side are back in action this Wednesday night with a tricky away trip to Newcastle United.

City will be in for a tough test against the Toon Army and will have to be at their best to win. Eddie Howe’s side head into the clash on the back of their 8-0 win away at Sheffield United in the Premier League last time out so will be in confident mood.

Kevin de Bruyne remains out of action with a hamstring injury and is still on the road to recovery. Meanwhile, John Stones is also sidelined and is still a few weeks away from returning.

Bernardo Silva has emerged as a doubt for the trip to the North East after injuring his leg against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League last week. Guardiola is poised to rest Kyle Walker and Ruben Dias to ensure they remain fully fit.

Rodri is suspended after being sent off against Nottingham Forest last time out. Meanwhile, City’s summer signing Mateo Kovacic will be assessed.

Joe Willock continues to nurse an Achilles injury and hasn’t featured yet this term. Emil Krafth is also in the same boat.

Out: De Bruyne, Stones, Barnes, Joelinton, Willock, Krafth

Doubts: Silva, Walker, Dias
