Pep Guardiola has said he may still add to his Manchester City squad before the transfer window shuts next week.

The champions have made just one addition so far in the form of Jack Grealish, however they have been linked all summer with a move for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.

Guardiola admitted a few weeks ago that City want to sign the England captain, and his comments this weekend suggest the club are still on the lookout for another option up front.

“When we decided not to extend the contract of Sergio Aguero [at the end of last season] and people asked what we would do, I said many times it would depend on the market,” the 50-year-old said in a post-match press conference.

“Maybe we will buy, maybe not. It is still the same situation. There are still 10, 11 days [left] in the transfer market. We are going to see what happens and it depends on that when we are going to take a decision.”

Despite Guardiola’s comments, the City boss has regularly stated that in his opinion, the squad does not need refreshed in order to win another a Premier League title.

“If the squad stays the same one then I am more than pleased with the team,” he said. “I know them really well. They know me really well.

“We put incredible energy in this week to compete with the good teams in England and the good teams in Europe. We want to be there. The group of people are fantastic. The players are incredible quality.

“I will never complain,” he continued. “I have never complained since day one and I will not do it now. But, of course, the club has an obligation and a duty to look forward to get better and to feel we can still be in there with a tough Premier League. This is what we are going to do.”
