The champions have also been linked with another attacking option should they miss out on Kane, while there are reports that one of Pep Guardiola’s main stars will extend his stay at the Etihad.

The view from our football writer

This one is going to rumble well into next week, if not to the deadline at the end of the month. A valuation of £150m really is ludicrous money and it’s incredible City are even contemplating such a bid given the ongoing financial fair play controversies. It would be amazing if a bid of that nature wasn’t accepted and it’s not a surprise Kane didn’t travel to Portugal given his lack of fitness at present.

Dusan Vlahovic

Should City miss out on Kane, they will turn their attention to Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic, who is valued at 80m euros. Firenze Viola.

Our view

Vlahovic is one of the most exciting young strikers on the planet and 21 Serie A goals last season is hugely impressive for a 21-year-old. It’s interesting that after a summer where Kane has been the only striker strongly linked with City, another option has emerged at this late stage. However, with no substantiated reports from England at the moment, for now we can probably overlook this rumour.

Pape Sarr

Journalist Jonathan Shrager says the young midfielder Pape Sarr is more likely to join City than Manchester United.

Our view

It’s unlikely a deal would happen if City were to sign Kane, but it seems much more plausible should the Blues opt for Vlahovic. A fee of £150m for the former means the resources to snap up Sarr, who is reportedly also a target for Chelsea, could be unavailable.

Ruben Dias

The Portuguese defender is in talks with City about signing a new contract, believed to be around the £250,000-a-week mark. The extension would see Dias’s deal run until 2027. Sun.

Our view

This is a no-brainer for everyone. Dias was voted FWA Player of the Year last season and is one of the Premier League’s standout centre-backs. Wages can cause real strife in football dressing rooms, and if Dias feels he is underpaid in comparison to his team-mates then getting him on a bumper new deal just makes sense.
