Phil Foden has said the ‘whole world’ will be watching Sunday’s Premier League clash between Manchester City and Liverpool.

With the teams separated by just a point in the table, and both so rarely dropping points, this weekend’s fixture at the Etihad really could be a title decider.

The significance of the game is not lost on Foden, who will be one of the many elite stars on show when the sides lock horns.

Speaking ahead of the game, the 21-year-old was asked which Liverpool player he most enjoys watching, and revealed it’s an England team-mate who has impressed him more than any other in Jurgen Klopp’s talented group.

“I think Trent [Alexander-Arnold],” he told Sky Sports. “I just love the way he passes the ball. I think he’s one of the best passers of a ball I’ve ever seen. I do love watching him play.”

Quizzed on Sunday’s match, Foden added: “I think there will be a lot of neutral people watching it. The whole world is going to be watching and it’s going to be an entertaining game.”

Liverpool’s biggest threats

City are used to high-profile clashes against Liverpool, and there’s clearly a mutual admiration between the respective squads and managers.

Liverpool head into the game on the back of an 11-match winning run, and Foden says the Reds are capable of using one of City’s best assets - their pressing - against them on Sunday.

“They’re very good, they can catch you off guard; say we’re pressing, they can just put balls over the top unexpectedly,” said City’s No.47. “That’s a threat they have, and one we’ll be watching for.

“They can go on a run of games where they don’t lose, we always knew that,” Foden continued. “We’ve tried to play every game properly and take maximum points. The manager has pushed that on us and we’ve gone into every game as serious as we can and tried to play our football.”

Asked about the rivalry that has blossomed between City and Liverpool, the boyhood Blue said: “I think it’s grown recently because we’ve been very close to winning the league many times. I think the rivalry has grown over the years and it’s massive. Now it’s much more important than it used to be.”
