Erling Haaland looks set to return to the Manchester City squad for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Southampton.

The Norwegian watched from the stands as the Blues beat Liverpool 4-1 last week, with Haaland struggling with a groin injury in recent weeks. But the no.9, who is on 42 goals for the season in all competitions, was pictured back in training on Wednesday and should therefore be available for the trip to St Mary’s on Saturday.

However, with the Champions League first leg against Bayern Munich coming up on Tuesday, Pep Guardiola may be tempted to stick with Julian Alvarez up top for the clash with Southampton, and keep his main man fresh for the following game.

Elsewhere, the only other injury concern is Phil Foden, who remains absent after having his appendix removed over the international break. Guardiola said last week that the England international will be out for ‘two or three weeks’.

As for Southampton, Ruben Selles is facing issues at the back with up to four defenders potentially set to be ruled out. Armel Bella-Kotchap definitely won’t be involved with a shoulder injury, while Juan Larios and Tino Livramento won’t play again this season due to long-term injuries.

Mohammed Salisu and Che Adams also missed last weekend’s trip to West Ham United with a knock, and Selles said last week that he didn’t know if the pair would be back in time for the clash with City.

"They were not able to step up in training," said the Southampton boss. "We now need to see whether they will be able to compete next week. It’s not 100 percent sure that they are out for that game but it’s also not 100 percent that they are in."

Doubts: Salisu, Adams Southampton (Southampton)

Ruled out: Bella-Kotchap, Livramento, Larios (Southampton) Foden (City)
