Manchester City host Sevilla on Wednesday in the final round of this season’s Champions League group-stage fixtures.

It’s a relatively meaningless game for both sides with City already guaranteed first place in the group and Sevilla set to finish third regardless of the result at the Etihad. As a result, both sides are expected to make wholesale changes to their line-ups.

But Pep Guardiola said in the build-up to the clash that he will not risk Erling Haaland for the encounter, with the Norwegian suffering from a knock at present. “For tomorrow he is not available,” said the City manager.

“He feels better. Every day - Sunday, Monday - he feels better and still he is not 100 percent. We don’t want to take a risk, there is no sense. Hopefully we can have him against Fulham [on Saturday].”

Guardiola also revealed Kalvin Phillips is back in non-contact training but won’t play on Wednesday, nor will defender Kyle Walker who is further behind in his recovery from surgery. However, Cole Palmer is likely to play some part against Sevilla despite missing the weekend win over Leicester City due to a lack of fitness.

“He trained after the [Leicester] game and he trained really well. He doesn’t have to show me anything special, Guardiola said of Palmer, on Tuesday. Another player who is set to return is Sergio Gomez after he missed the most recent Champions League game through suspension.

As for Sevilla, they’re set to be without Tecatito and Tanguy Nianzou through injury, while ex-City midfielder Fernando is also absent and hasn’t played since September. Oliver Torres is another player who will miss out, with the former Atletico Madrid man not registered to play in Europe despite featuring in 10 of Sevilla’s 12 La Liga outings this term.

The only real doubt is Youssef En-Nesyri. The Moroccan striker missed last weekend’s 1-0 loss to Rayo Vallecano due to a hamstring issue and it’s unclear if he’ll return in time for the Champions League outing.

Ruled out: Walker, Phillips, Haaland (City); Tecatito, Nianzou, Fernando, Torres (Sevilla)

Doubt: En-Nesyri (Sevilla)

Returning: Gomez, Palmer (City)
