Manchester City will aim to extend their lead over Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table to four points when they face Leeds United on Saturday.

The Blues went back into first place on Wednesday courtesy of a 3-0 victory over West Ham United, with Erling Haaland scoring a record-breaking 35th league goal of the season in the second half. It leaves City as overwhelming favourites to win a third consecutive title and they still have a game in hand over Mikel Arteta’s side.

City have won the last nine in the Premier League, but have had to manage without Kevin De Bruyne in their two most recent games after the Belgian picked up a knock in last week’s win over Arsenal. The midfielder may be available again this weekend however, after he was seen back in training on Thursday.

Speaking in Friday’s pre-match press conference, Guardiola was asked for the latest on De Bruyne’s fitness and said: “He trained yesterday and he trained good. Today we are going to train and we will decide after training.”

Guardiola opted to rest Ederson in midweek and said he is available to play on Saturday, but seemed to imply he may have to rest some players for the clash with Leeds. “I am thinking it is a lot of games with a lot of tension,” the ex-Barcelona manager said on the squad’s recent fixture schedule.

“I have to see today. Yesterday I saw the team [looking] really tired [in training] after the demands of [games against] Fulham and West Ham. I have to see how the players recover, again in just three days. My decisions will focus on how they are physically and mentally to play in that game.”

As for Leeds, they have four players missing for the trip to the Etihad. Liam Cooper is a fresh absence with a hip problem, with Sam Allardyce saying on Friday that he is unsure if the defender will play again this season.

Tyler Adams is also out with a hamstring injury that has prevented him playing since March. Meanwhile, Luis Sinisterra won’t play again this campaign due to an ankle ligament issue, and Stuart Dallas hasn’t featured since breaking his leg against City last April.

Doubt: De Bruyne (City)

Ruled out: Cooper, Dallas, Adams, Sinisterra (Leeds)
