Pep Guardiola has said Manchester City’s recent slump in form should make the team more hungry.

The champions have failed to win any of the last four leagues matches and suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to Aston Villa on Wednesday night. That results leaves City sitting fourth in the table, and while Guardiola insists his players have not become complacent, he did say that the recent results may act as a reminder just how difficult it is finish first.

Complacency is about arriving late to training, don't train good, don't do a good job, doesn't matter what happens,” he said. “I'm talking about just the bad results, see how difficult is what we have done and what will be. Just the bad results help you to understand it.

“We make standards that people want to be there. I see the hunger in the opponents. I see it. To recover that, we have to lose. The problem is if you lose, you lose competitions. City’s chances of ending that winless run will be boosted by the returns of Rodri and Jack Grealish against Luton Town. Both were suspended for the midweek trip to Villa Park but are available for Sunday.
