Man City player ratings: Erling Haaland scores 10/10 but three others get 9/10 vs Burnley - gallery

Another Erling Haaland treble helped Manchester City progress in the FA Cup and means a Wembley trip next month for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Manchester City progressed to the semi-finals of the FA Cup on Saturday as they beat Burnley 6-0.

Four days on from netting five against RB Leipzig, Erling Haaland helped himself to another hat-trick inside an hour, while Julian Alvarez (2) and Cole Palmer netted in the second period as Vincent Kompany crashed out the FA Cup on his return to the Etihad.

Despite that, it was the visitors who started on top after a slow beginning from City, and Burnley’s best chance in the opening half an hour saw Stefan Ortega palm away a strike from Nathan Tella.

But on 31 minutes the ruthless Haaland gave Guardiola’s men the lead. The Norwegian latched onto a through ball from Julian Alvarez and, with Bailey Peacock-Farrell rushing out of his goal, Haaland just poked it past him and into the corner of the net.

Within minutes it was 2-0 when Phil Foden picked out City’s no.9 in the centre with a brilliant cross, and Haaland placed the ball into the goal. The Blues held that lead at the break despite being far off their best, with Ortega saving from Ian Maatsen’s strike at the goalkeeper’s near post in the final minutes of the half.

City did come out with more enthusiasm in the second period and Peacock-Farrell made excellent stops to keep out Riyad Mahrez and Haaland shots from point-blank range, while Foden’s looping header was also comfortably held.

Just before the hour mark, Haaland grabbed his hat-trick when he was perfectly placed to tap in at the back post after Foden’s shot struck the post.

If City underwhelmed in the first period, they were in the full flight at this stage, and De Bruyne managed to pick out Alvarez in the middle for a simple finish to make it 4-0. On 69 minutes, De Bruyne once again was the architect of a City goal as his pass found Foden in the wide areas, and the no.47 saw his shot saved by Peacock-Farrell, only for Palmer to slot in from the rebound.

Mahrez, Alvarez and Kalvin Phillips all produced dangerous efforts as the game moved into the final 20 minutes. And the goals just kept coming from City, with Alvarez grabbing a second after he smashed his shot into the net following a quick breakaway which began with a delightful De Bruyne through ball.

The latter stages of the game somewhat petered out with few chances for either side, although Ashley Barnes fired wide in a rare Burnley chance in the second half. Here’s how we rated the City players...
