Man City player ratings v Tottenham: Two score 8/10 as three earn 7/10 in 3-2 win - gallery

Manchester City fell further behind leaders Arsenal in the Premier League after a 3-3 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola's side had led twice in the second period, but were pegged back on both occasions by Spurs, meaning Arsenal now sit three points clear at the league summit.

It was a fast start at the Etihad, with two goals in the first 10 minutes, both of which were netted by Heung-min Son but at opposite ends. The Spurs attacker handed his side the lead when Jermey Doku misjudged a long ball from Dejan Kulusevski, which Son managed to get his head to, before driving at goal and firing past Ederson.

Yet, the advantage didn’t last long as Julian Alvarez’s outswinging cross from a free-kick inadvertently flicked into the Tottenham goal off Son’s knee, putting the teams back on level terms.

Those early goals set the tone for the high-energy encounter, with City moving the ball quickly while a somewhat naive Spurs did offer a threat on the break. But it was the hosts’ approach that proved most effective, with Erling Haaland failing to convert from inside the box - a chance he usually scores in his sleep - while Doku cut inside and hit the post on the half-hour mark.

Soon after, City’s dominance was rewarded as Doku, Alvarez and Phil Foden linked well in the box, with the latter taking a touch and coolly slotting the ball past Guglielmo Vicario.

Alvarez went close to adding a third near the end of a half in which City were well on top of, but his powerful strike smacked off the post and came out.

If the opening 45 minutes was breathless and chaotic, the start of the second half was relatively calm in comparison. Other than an outside-of-the-foot curled effort from Silva that Vicario tipped wide, there was little to report. That was until Giovano Lo Celso popped up with an equaliser in the 69th minute as he cut back onto his left foot and fired the ball beyond Ederson.

But City responded well and were back in front just over 10 minutes later as Rodri won possession near the edge of the Spurs box and released Haaland, who cut the ball back for Grealish to sweep home.

Yet, Spurs managed to grab an unexpected sixth and final goal of the game when Brennan Johnson's cross was hung up at the back post and nodded in by Kulusevski, who outjumped a flat-footed Nathan Ake at the back post in the 90th minute.
