Man City 'interested' in £137m Bayern Munich swoop as Pep Guardiola eyes former star

Manchester City are known admirers of Joshua Kimmich but reports have suggested they could also sign one of his Bayern Munich teammates in a sensational £137million double swoop.

Kimmich's future at Bayern is growing increasingly uncertain with the midfielder now into the final 18 months of a contract he penned in 2021. The 28-year-old is not expected to sign a new deal and so Thomas Tuchel's side may be forced to sell this summer, rather than losing him for free in 2025.

Even with one year left on his contract come summer, the Bundesliga club are wanting £50m and City are keeping a close eye on the situation ahead of a potential move. But recruitment chiefs at the Etihad are also keeping tabs on Jamal Musiala and The Athletic reports they could be interested in a move for the attacking midfielder if he opts against a new deal.

Musiala has an extra year on his current contract compared to Kimmich, but his value will begin to diminish once it enters its final 24 months and so Bayern could make the decision to sell both. Previous reports have suggested it could cost potential suitors around £87m for the German side to even consider selling.

It is likely City will need to recruit more than one midfielder, with defensive and attacking options on the table. Kalvin Phillips joined West Ham on loan in January and is expected to find a permanent home away from the Etihad in the summer, leaving Rodri as the only natural option in defensive midfield.

Meanwhile, the future of Bernardo Silva remains uncertain and the Portuguese international has made no secret of his desire to seek a fresh challenge in the near future. He signed a new contract in the summer but that contains a release clause.

Kimmich would also hold the added benefit of being able to comfortably slot in at right-back, which remains a problem position at City with Kyle Walker turning 34 in May and struggling to keep up the levels of previous campaigns.

Bayern are hoping to tie both Kimmich and Musiala down to new deals so their availability in the summer is not a given. City also have more pressing concerns to attend to than someone with the profile of Musiala, making a move for him less likely.
