John Stones will miss Manchester City's trip to Chelsea this weekend through injury.

But there was positive news around Manuel Akanji who trained on Friday, despite being an injury concern in midweek.

Stones was replaced at half-time in Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Young Boys, while Akanji was initially named in the starting XI but a last-minute change saw him replaced by Kyle Walker. Guardiola was asked about both players in his post-match press conference and revealed the pair picked up injuries of varying severity.

The City boss provided an update at his press conference ahead of Sunday's trip to Chelsea, with Stones out injured.

On Stones, Guardiola said: "He's injured. He's not ready for Chelsea and we'll see after the international break. I don't know [if ready for Liverpool].

"The partnership with Rodri has been one of the key points for us but this season we can't use it much. We have to reflect and be consistent."

On Akanji , he added: "Good. Trained today and trained good."

Stones’ injury is a major concern. The ex-Everton man missed 11 of City’s first 12 matches of the season with a hip injury and speaking to TNT Sport on Tuesday, Guardiola implied it was the same issue, as he said the defender ‘felt it again’.

City have Walker, Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, Josko Gvardiol as options in defence on Sunday, along with Rico Lewis and the returning Manuel Akanji.
